To the members of the House Judiciary Committee,
My name is [FULL NAME] and I am from [YOUR ZIP]. I’m asking for your support on HB22-1067 because:
[PLEASE CUSTOMIZE FROM THE BULLET POINTS BELOW]
This is a common sense bill that:
closes the legal loophole to ensure Coloradans charged with the lowest level offenses have the same access to justice as those with higher level offenses.
will save money to taxpayers and reduce harm to vulnerable communities.
Municipal offenses are:
closely tied to homelessness, mental health conditions, and substance use disorders.
closely tied to our most vulnerable neighbors.
Jailing people charged with municipal offenses for up to 6 days:
does not improve public safety.
can destabilize lives in ways that harm the entire community such as loss of jobs, housing, and child care.
can increases risk of suicide and overdose in vulnerable populations.
Thank you for your consideration of supporting HB22-1067. I believe you’ll agree:
all Coloradans deserve equal access to justice.
HB22-1067 provides thoughtful due process for low-level municipal offenses.
