Bill to require bond hearings within 48 hours of being arrested passes its first committee test
Michelle Reynolds was speeding; she was in a rush to get to her niece’s first volleyball game in Grand Junction two years ago and was excited to sit in the crowd.
That moment never came. Reynolds was pulled over on the way to the match by an officer for going too fast. She thought the process would be quick and that she would get a ticket and still make the game.

Colorado’s jail population plummeted due to temporary pandemic changes. Some could become law.
“When we think about crime, we shouldn’t think about it as a consequence of lack of incarceration,” Andrea Borrego, assistant professor of criminal justice and criminology at Metropolitan State University, said. “We should think about crime as a consequence of what we’re not providing to our society.”

Boulder changes tune on jail reform bill
“There’s so many racial justice advocates out there directly saying that this bill is needed; they’re screaming at the top of their lungs for you to listen,” said Kristen Eller. “Boulder is currently holding up progress in Colorado when we could be setting up an example.”
