Tell Aurora elected officials:

SB21-062 will save lives and create a safer community

“Every police interaction can lead down a path to severe consequences. Justice isn't served by prioritizing prosecution of low-level offenses over someone's life.”

Michael N. Herring

SB21-62 is the next step to make Colorado more equitable, just, and safe for our entire community.

Why SB21-062?

Low-level offenses account for 80% of all arrests across the country.  The mass enforcement of nonviolent misdemeanors has destructive and deadly consequences. Communities of color are disproportionately arrested and convicted for low-level crimes, perpetuating racial inequalities by limiting access to employment, education, housing, and earnings.

  • The city of Aurora ranks 8th out of the 100 largest cities in the U.S. for police killings per capita, and the Aurora Police Department kills Black people at four times the rate of white people.

  • Colorado has the 6th highest rate of police killings in the country.

  • SB21-062 will reduce arrests for low level offenses, giving police fewer excuses to go hands-on and help to reduce the inequities in our criminal justice system
