Introducing the SB21-062 Coalition Amendment

WHY SUPPORT THE COALITION AMENDMENT

The senate sponsor, Sen. Pete Lee is offering careful and measured amendments to the bill with the purpose of getting the necessary votes out of the Colorado State Senate so it may ultimately pass into law. This amendment:

✓ Is approved by a diverse coalition of stakeholders including Black Lives Matter 5280, Colorado Freedom Fund, and the NAACP CO-MT-WY. 

✓ Keeps the core purposes and import of SB21-062 intact.

✓ Is vetted by Colorado District Attorneys Council.

✓ Clarifies key language and addresses stakeholder concerns.

WHAT THE COALITION AMENDMENT DOES

  1. Removes auto theft from the summons provision;

  2. Removes felony 4 from the summons provision;

  3. Expands the firearms exception to the summons provision to include deadly weapons;

  4. Lowers the number of failures to appear before money bond can issue from 3 to 2 in a case; and

  5. Clarifies the intent and meaning of the summons provision (to avoid continued misinformation/ misunderstanding).
